The team at ABL Group shares the passion, vision and values for working in energy and the world’s oceans, de-risking and driving the energy transition. We are driven by the idea that the best work is born from professionalism, diligence… and fun. You know ABL Group, but do you know our team?
Meet Riccardo Gnocchi | Snr Naval Architect, Longitude Italy
What does your day-to-day look like at Longitude?
My day normally involves a split between longitude and OWC work.
For Longitude, I work predominantly in cable installation engineering and hydrodynamic or stability analysis. With OWC my role is to work on engineering for floating wind projects in Italy.
Sometimes I also assist ABL for salvage and emergency response services, due to my experience in the salvage sector.
What inspired you to join your industry?
The multi-disciplinary portfolio of Longitude and OWC, and the ABL group.
Can you tell us about something exciting you are working on right now?
I am working on engineering related to floating wind turbines, it is a topic that I am particularly passionate about and I am really interested by the challenges that this type of technology involves.
What does the future look like in energy and oceans?
The future could be bright if companies and governments understand the potential of renewable energies and the power of oceans. There is a lot of energy that can be harvested, but large-scale projects pose large difficulties which may not always make the project feasible. A brighter future is also a future where more importance is given to environment and to the impact that our activities have on it.
