Meet Jean-Baptists Meier | Director of Renewable Assets, Longitude Singapore
1. What does your day-to-day look like in Longitude?
My day to day work consists of identifying opportunities and developing Longitude’s resource capacity to execute Pre-FEED and FEED projects in the renewable energy space. Based in Singapore, Longitude’s Asia Pacific headquarters, I am also responsible for overseeing the execution of our renewable energy projects for Longitude in the wider continent, as well as drawing connections with expertise and service offerings from the wider ABL Group and our sister company ABL, also based in Singapore.
2. What inspired you to join your industry?
During my upbringing in the French Alps, I felt drawn to ocean-related works, which steered my educational journey towards offshore engineering. This propelled me into my initial career in the offshore oil and gas industry, before transitioning my skillset into the offshore renewable sector with an ambition to contribute to the energy transition. Starting my renewable energy journey with Longitude, I furthered my knowledge with a major offshore wind EPCI player before returning to Longitude to develop this promising path.
3. Can you tell us something exciting you are working on right now?
Renewable energy is a thrilling area by itself. The opportunity to engage with new faces regularly, both internally and externally, brings fresh perspectives and insights. We accompany clients in exploring novel areas and new innovations, and we are rewarded in the tangible impact our solutions and consultancy support has in building a better and more sustainable world through renewable energy.
4. What does the future look like in energy and oceans in Asia Pacific?
Much of Asia Pacific, like the rest of the world, is at a crossroad to divert from fossil fuel dominance. The future will embrace the oceans as a key energy provider, safe and sustainable, for the generations for come.
