What does your day-to-day look like at Longitude?
My day-to-day at Longitude varies and I have the opportunity to work on a a wide array of different projects, which keeps the job interesting and keeps you on your toes! Mostly I support offshore renewable energy projects and namely offshore wind, but I am lucky to also have exposure to the other sectors in energy and oceans, that we work in!
I support engineering, design and analysis projects across cables and umbilicals. This means also project managing and being available to support the naval architectural team across the different types of projects we work in – from marine transportation and installation (T&I) engineering, to supporting offshore client representative (OCR) placements, and carrying out various dynamic and static cabling analyses.
What inspired you to join your industry?
My motivation to join the offshore renewable industry stems form its innovation and rapid growth. As a Naval Architect, I am fascinated by the engineering challenges and opportunities to harness wind power and power transmission. The industry’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and combating climate change aligns with my passion for sustainability.
My background in naval architecture allows me to contribute uniquely to the design and construction of offshore structures. The technological advancements and the collaborative nature of the industry, involving engineers, environmental scientists, and policymakers, are particularly appealing. Working on projects that have a tangible positive impact on the environment and communities is incredibly fulfilling and drives my passion for this field.
Can you tell us about something exciting you are working on right now?
I have just finished working on some exciting projects in the Orkney Isles. We were responsible for the cable installation engineering for several interconnectors in this region. This is the most northerly project I have ever completed. We combined our cable installation expertise with metocean data and local site conditions to ensure a safe operation.
What do you most enjoy about working as part of the ABL Group team?
