Daniel McGowan | Global Facilities and Subsea Director, Longitude UK
Can you tell us a bit about your day-to-day responsibilities?
Each day, I ensure our pipeline of opportunities remains consistently replenished. I also make sure that the right people are assigned to the right tasks at the right time, manage client relationships, oversee deliverables, and ensure our direction aligns with Longitude’s agreed strategy.
A key part of my role is supporting the development of engineers and providing them with exposure to diverse and challenging work scopes. I’ve been fortunate to work with major operators, which has further enriched my experience.
What first sparked your interest in energy and oceans?
I grew up around engineering and operations in petrochemicals, oil and gas. It seemed a natural route to follow my father and brother with a career in energy development. This career provides many a challenges with global opportunities. I have been fortunate to work for major operators, carrying out roles in operations projects and commercial M&A.
Are there any exciting projects that you are currently working on?
Our team are busy across many existing projects ranging from the subsea tie ins for 5 wells, to an ammonia engine feasibility review.
We also have FEED work including produced water export pipeline design, conceptually designing the conversion of a VLCC to FSU, pre ops preparation for an O&M team, along with TDD audits for global clients.
The work is challenging and varied but we can rely on our strong, multidisciplined teams to deliver for our clients!
How does facilities and subsea design engineering support sustainable energy?
There are several ways it supports sustainable energy and the reduction of our carbon footprint, through green electrification and sustainable fuels, conceptual hydrogen projects, along with CCUS and creating more efficient designs.
You’re about to go to EGYPES 2025 – what are you most looking forward to at this year’s conference?
It will be great to reconnect with our client base, share our recent experiences, and follow up on our Process Safety and Asset Integrity day, which we co-hosted with our sister company, ABL in Egypt, and with the country’s oil & natural gas company Petrosafe.
I’m also hoping to explore new client opportunities and of course enjoy the cultural offering Egypt provides!
Longitude’s facilities and subsea engineering team has supported on the development of some of the country’s most prominent offshore energy fields, including more recently on the Phase X development of the West Delta Deep Marine Concession, part of the Burullus gas field:
