Woen Jinn are the installers of submarine power cables in Taiwan. They were awarded a project in Taiwan to install power cables for offshore wind farms and chose to procure a new ship for these services. Longitude were appointed to prepare the concept and basic design of the DP2 cable ship to meet European standards, for Asian construction and operation.
Longitude’s Scope of Work
- Design Basis
- Concept design and design specification
- Stability, powering and motions response calculations
- Machinery selection and DP system layout
- Basic design & Shipyard selection
- Detailed design review & Stability and DP2 FMEA documentation
The design basis was conducted through a series of interviews with the Owner to determine the design constraints. The concept design was then developed with regular communication with the Owner to ensure that the product matched their expectations. Other stakeholders were also consulted through the processes including end clients, Class, Flag and other approval bodies. Local constraints were incorporated into the design such as dry-dock availability, heights of quays and alongside cranage.
Specialists from within Longitude and our sister companies were used to optimize the design for operational performance. This included hull form analysis by CFD, machinery arrangement for dynamic positioning by DP electrical specialists, overall dimensions for very shallow water operation selected by parametric analysis by experienced naval architects.
Project Results
On completion of the concept design, Longitude were appointed to prepare the basic design and oversee the shipyard detailed design and construction.
