Longitude experts join Brazil’s leading naval architecture discussions as offshore investment momentum grows
Naval architecture specialists from Longitude Brazil recently joined the XVIth Meeting of Naval Architects in Rio de Janeiro – an annual get-together of Rio de Janeiro’s naval architecture community and a great opportunity to contribute to discussions on the future of Brazil’s maritime and offshore energy development.
As it does every year, the event provided an opportunity to exchange views on the offshore market, where growing investment in exploration and production activity is driving renewed confidence and a focus on strengthening offshore capabilities.

Joined by colleagues from sister company ABL – leading Brazil-based specialists in marine surveying, loss prevention and management, and asset integrity services – the event provided an opportunity for engineering specialists to discuss the major opportunities and challenges shaping Brazil’s offshore sector.
Offshore investment driving market confidence
A clear takeaway from the evening, was the strength of Brazil’s offshore market and growing confidence in the sector’s future with Petrobras’ plans to expand activity in the Equatorial Margin. This includes its recently announced investment of approximately US$2.5 billion to drill 15 wells by 2030. This push is largely driven by recent discoveries in the Amazon Delta and similar geological findings in Guyana and Suriname.
The team also noted a renewed focus to strengthen offshore capabilities in the region – further reflected in the recent cooperation protocol signed between Petrobras and the Brazilian Navy to support offshore operations and maritime security in the Equatorial Margin.

Supporting a growing offshore market
As investment and activity increase across Brazil and the wider region, the need for experienced local engineering and marine specialists is growing alongside the volume and complexity of offshore projects.
For operators, developers and EPCI contractors, this means access to partners who can combine international engineering expertise with local knowledge to help navigate project challenges, regulatory requirements, operational realities and often an international supply chain.
With roots in the respected Brazilian engineering consultancy Proper Marine, Longitude Brazil combines local market knowledge with the global engineering capabilities of Longitude and the marine assurance and operational expertise of sister company ABL.
“Brazil remains one of the world’s most exciting offshore markets. As activity grows, clients need partners that combine international engineering standards with a genuine understanding of local operating conditions, regulations and project challenges. That combination is where Longitude Brazil adds real value.”
