Case Study

Docking of the ship Geonísio Barroso for the Asgaard Bourbon

Project title: Docking of the ship Geonísio Barroso for the Asgaard Bourbon
Project location: Brazil
Client: Asgaard Bourbon
Project Summary:

Longitude Brazil supported the critical dry-dock for the vessel Geonísio Barroso.

About the project

In 2024, Proper Marine – now Longitude Brazil – successfully completed the dry-docking project for the vessel Geonísio Barroso, belonging to Asgaard Bourbon Navegação. This challenging operation was conducted with a collaborative and highly qualified team, meeting deadlines and exceeding client expectations.

The challenges

The dry-docking, which involved the complete maintenance of the ship’s machinery, equipment, and structures, required detailed planning and extensive expertise. The process was carried out at a critical time, as the ship had reached 20 years of operation, making its reclassification and the issuance of new certificates necessary.

The execution

Longitude Brazil managed the entire process, integrating the Asgaard team and subcontractors, as well as optimizing activity schedules.

Technical supervisor Jefferson Santos points out that the company took over the project during the execution phase, which presented an additional challenge. “Even without participating in the initial planning, we managed to adjust deadlines and integrate activities efficiently, overcoming the challenges.”

The development

The project coordinator, Pedro Vilela, explained that Proper Marine developed a macro-level vision of the process and provided support so that Asgaard could make assertive decisions. Furthermore, the team developed an extra schedule to ensure the integration of activities, something the client hadn’t expected but which was fundamental to the project’s success.

A detailed log, with analyses and photographic records, was created to track the entire dry-docking process. “We identified critical problems and ensured the delivery of a complete service, fully satisfying the client’s expectations,” comments Pedro Vilela.

Challenges overcome

Felipe José de Sá, sales assistant, commented on the unforeseen events encountered during the execution of services and the importance of synergy between the Onshore and Offshore teams at Proper Marine.

“Our ability to respond quickly to unexpected problems and the collaboration between teams were fundamental to the success of the docking.”
