Longitude Brazil Project Profile: FPSO MV22 and MV23 Asset Integrity Campaigns and MV27 Installation Engineering Support
Project overview
Longitude Brazil, formerly Proper Marine, provided facilities and subsea engineering, asset integrity support and on-site engineering supervision for three MODEC FPSO assets operating offshore Brazil.
The project supported critical maintenance, refurbishment and installation activities across the MV22, MV23 and MV27 units, combining local offshore execution knowledge with Longitude’s wider technical expertise in FPSO engineering, marine operations, installation engineering and asset integrity management.
For MV22 and MV23, Longitude’s on-site engineering team supported scheduled maintenance and refurbishment works related to asset integrity. For MV27, the team provided installation engineering support for new flowlines, contributing to improved asset performance and increased oil production capacity.
Scope of work
Longitude Brazil was commissioned to provide technical project review, engineering support and site supervision across multiple FPSO workfronts.
The scope included the assessment of schedules, resources, execution risks and contractor interfaces, together with direct site supervision and progress reporting. This enabled the client to maintain stronger technical control over complex offshore activities and support safer, more efficient project delivery.
The technical scope included:
- Inspection, repair and retrofit of static equipment in accordance with NR-13 requirements;
- Hull and tank integrity repairs;
- Heavy lifting operations;
- Dropped Objects Prevention Scheme, DROPS, campaign support;
- Installation of new piping systems;
- Installation engineering support for new flowlines;
- Offshore supervision and progress reporting;
- Coordination support for simultaneous operations, SIMOPS.
Technical challenges
The main challenge was managing a high volume of critical offshore activities within an active FPSO operating environment.
Activities such as hot work in confined spaces, rope access, heavy lifting, tank repairs and piping installation required robust planning, technical oversight and interface management. The coordination of SIMOPS was essential to reduce execution risk, maintain safety standards and protect the project schedule.
Longitude’s combination of on-site engineering supervision, asset integrity expertise and marine operations support helped ensure that critical workfronts were delivered with greater control, technical assurance and operational awareness.
Highlights and results
Historical benchmark for MODEC
The project established a significant benchmark within MODEC due to the record-breaking number of Work Orders, WOs, executed during the campaign.
High performance on MV27
On the MV27 unit, Longitude supported the installation engineering of new flowlines. Following the technical intervention, planned versus executed targets were exceeded, delivering higher efficiency than initially projected.
Complex rigging and access solution
The team supported the assembly of a large scaffolding tower, the largest of the project, to enable the replacement of two heat exchangers at the top of the modules. The activity involved chain hoist rigging methods and careful planning of access, lifting and execution risks.
Value delivered
Longitude Brazil delivered an integrated technical support model for FPSO asset integrity and offshore installation works, combining local site presence with engineering expertise.
The value delivered included:
- Reduced execution risk in a high-hazard SIMOPS environment;
- Independent technical oversight to improve control of offshore workfronts;
- Strong execution support across multiple FPSO assets;
- Measurable performance improvements, including exceeded planned versus executed targets;
- Integrated on-site supervision, engineering and design expertise;
- End-to-end technical support grounded in operational reality;
- In-country support with Brazilian offshore market knowledge;
- Access to Longitude’s global FPSO, facilities and subsea engineering experience.
Strategic relevance
This project demonstrates Longitude Brazil’s capability to support FPSO operators with practical, technically robust and locally embedded engineering support across the full asset lifecycle.
From asset integrity campaigns and refurbishment works to installation engineering, marine operations and subsea-related interfaces, Longitude helps clients manage technical risk, improve execution control and enhance the performance of offshore energy assets in Brazil.
