LNG Tanker Dynamic Mooring Analysis & Berth Suitability
Longitude provided a range of marine operations engineering services, including:
- Dynamic mooring analysis
- Jetty interaction assessment
- Mooring system evaluation
- Vessel motion analysis
- Underkeel clearance assessment
About the Project
Longitude was engaged by a major classification society to undertake a dynamic mooring analysis of an LNG tanker at berth in Italy.
The terminal receives LNG vessels on a regular basis for regassification and is required to demonstrate that LNG vessels mooring alongside – OCIMF requirements.

Our scope of work
Longitude provided an integrated service package in marine operations engineering, to deliver on the following:
- Dynamic mooring analysis
- Confirmation of fender loads
- Confirmation of under keel clearance with vessel motions
The results
Longitude’s engineers prepared a full dynamic analysis of the LNG vessel to account for various combinations of wind, wave and current and different states of tide, whilst also taking account the presence of LNG jetty structure.
Results of the analysis for the mooring systems strength, fender loading and the movement of the vessel were reported to ensure that the arrangement meets OCIMF’s requirements and to ensure that vessel motions remain within the limits of the loading arm.
Furthermore, the berth is in shallow water with a sloping seabed and the analysis was able to show that adequate underkeel clearance is maintained at all times whilst tankers are at the berth.
